A live session for BBC Tees recorded November 2003. Bands usually played 2 or 3 songs but we made the most of the chance to be recorded and blasted through a full set hence the speed of the playing at times!

"Questions were asked when the new album from The Amsterdam Film Company landed on my desk.

People wanted to know if the elaborately packaged DVD-like offering called Night Vision was a seedy porn film from an anonymous sounding Dutch production firm?

The debut on the From Teesside with Love label is rather good and, considering their name, there's at least one cinematic swish on here. Anyone wanting a band to provide a soundtrack for their '70s set Boro-based car chase movie, need look no further.

Opening tune Smash Hits features a middle eight that sounds as if it's come directly from the vaults of Acid Jazz - a never finished Corduroy tune.

The song also sets the lyrical scene for much of the rest of the record. The opener is a tale of a smash and grab undesirable whose late night delvings earn him a Buffy The Vampire Slayer Box Set and much else. It also reveals the theme of the album, as Andy Johnson explores the seedy underbelly of modern life.

He gazes squarely at the perils and pitfalls (and in some cases pointlessness) of some modern lives. Lyrically, this record isn't a million miles from the likes of Pulp's His 'N' Hers but, instead of a detached glimpse at life in Sheffield, the Amsterdams offer us a snapshot of life on Teesside. …"
